We had an excellent day out to Ludlow on the 6th October. The group of 13 travelled by Celtic Travel minibus to the town, arriving in time for a quick restorative coffee before meeting Ludlow Historical Society's Roger Furniss who led a guided tour of the town centre. In a fascinating 2 hour tour, Roger introduced the group to the history and architecture of the town, for example, showing how the early timber framed buildings were given exterior make-overs to fit in with the later Georgian and Victorian additions to the streets. His description of the town's development over the centuries was interspersed with tales of the key characters in its history. Before his retirement, Roger was a teacher, and his school-masterly skills ensured everyone was still alert and listening to the end! After the tour, the group went their separate ways to find lunch, and spent the afternoon variously visiting the castle, the church, the shops, or exploring further until, at 4pm, the minibus made the return journey to Llandinam and Llanidloes. A good time was had by all.
